내용 - Expansion of autonomous buses in Q1 and launch of demand-responsive autonomous shuttles in Q3 -
Chungcheongbuk-do Provincial Government (Chungbuk) announced on Jan. 14 its plans to expand existing autonomous vehicle operations to foster the autonomous driving industry and deliver services that residents can experience firsthand.
Starting in March this year, two autonomous buses will begin operating in the Chungcheong region's autonomous driving pilot zone on the routes of the metropolitan transportation network that connects Cheongju Airport, Ochang, Osong Station, and Jochiwon Station. These buses will run four round trips on weekdays. Additionally, by the third quarter, three demand-responsive autonomous shuttles are scheduled to operate on weekdays in the areas of Osong Station and Jochiwon Station.
The Chungcheong region's autonomous driving pilot zone was recognized as one of the top-performing zones, along with Sangam in Seoul among 24 zones nationwide, in a performance evaluation announced by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport (MOLIT) last year on Nov. 29. The expanded operations are expected to contribute to the commercialization of autonomous driving technology and improve the efficiency and convenience of public transportation services.
Meanwhile, Governor Kim Young-hwan visited Chungbuk's autonomous vehicle testbed (C-track) on Jan. 14 to inspect the site and test drive an autonomous vehicle. He also discussed strategies to strengthen Chungbuk's regional competitiveness through the C-track with autonomous driving experts from Chungbuk National University.
An official from Chungbuk National University emphasized, “Chungbuk's strengths in the semiconductor, autonomous driving, and software industries must collaborate to develop specialized industries. It is crucial to focus on technology development based on the C-track and the pilot zone's testing roads.”
An official from Chungcheongbuk-do Provincial Government stated, “Chungbuk will continue to revitalize the autonomous driving pilot zone and solidify the autonomous driving industry ecosystem using the C-track as a foundation. Through these efforts, Chungbuk aims to lead the way as a hub for future cars.”
